We are a community of believers whose purpose is to glorify God by proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We seek to see people be reconciled to God and strengthening the church of Christ. Our church is a member of the
Chortitzer Mennonite Conference.
We invite you to join us as we worship our Lord and Saviour together. We have programs for everyone ages 3 and up, so bring your whole family (or if you're single, come anyway) and see what God has in store for you.
History
The church was built in 1944 and replaced the Blumengard church about two and a half miles to the east. The new site, located just south of village of Silberfeld (which has since disappeared) was choosen by the people in surrounding villages as it was a more central location and everyone travelled by horse and buggy.
The church building was constructed with mostly volunteer help. In 1957, the building was raised and rotated 90 degrees to face the road on the east side of the property. A basement was also added. A foyer was added in 1970. Another large expansion in 1975 increased the size of the sanctuary and added more classroom space for the Sunday School. These were the last major additions and renovations to the building.
The Blumengard church started Saturday school so children could be learn the Catechism, the Fibel, and also the Biblische Geschiten. This did not work as children stayed home from the Sunday services, as they already had six days of school.
The Sunday School began at Silberfeld in 1949. Midweek youth programs were added in the 1960's and 70's, which further served to teach the Word of God to young people.
There have been many changes over the years: the languages spoke, the hymn books used, as well as the instruments used. The message of the Scriptures has always remained the same: an emphasis on the salvation through Jesus Christ alone. The salvation that is preached comes by faith in Jesus Christ and His righteousness.
God has been faithful as He has ultimately led the church community. A number of people have gone to work in the mission field or ministered in other church or para-church ministries. Many people have taught Sunday School, sung in the choir, and proclaimed the Word of God.
Future
A few years ago, the Silberfeld congregation made the decision to relocate to New Bothwell to better serve the spiritual needs of the community. A new building, to be located at the south end of town, is planned for construction beginning in spring 2011. For more information or to get involved, please visit the
Building Project page.
The message has been consistent: "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." Hebrews 13:8 (NIV)
